A pioneer of off-price designer labels was Sy Syms. A person whose fame had rested on folksy commercials that, as a merchandiser, had belied his talents. On November the seventeenth, at age of eighty three, Mr. Syms had died, but is still remembered as the source for their first suits, by many a New York man.
As the star of those late night advertisements that featured Mr. Syms proclaiming, "An educated consumer is our best customer." He will surely be missed by many television viewers.
